University of Maryland Students, Staff, and Faculty can now use the
Route 1 Ride Bus (TheBus 17) free of charge. Route 1 Ride travels from
Mount Rainier (near the District of Columbia line) to the IKEA store in
North College Park. This bus currently operates from 5:30 AM to 8:15 PM
Monday through Friday, with hours to expand in the near future. The
bus is very convenient in getting directly to several of the off-campus
residences, such as University View, The Varsity, and Mazza Grandmarc as
well as restaurants such as Busboys & Poets, Yes! Organic Market,
Franklins Brewery & Restaurant, and the many attractions available
in the Hyattsville Arts District. The Route 1 Ride also stops at the
College Park Metro Station. Play your role and take green transit while
supporting the small businesses in the area. Please remember to show
your university ID when boarding to ride on for free.
Additionally, there is a contest through September 9th
where you can vote for one of three bus-wrap designs created by local
artists. The design that receives the most votes will be used to wrap
the exterior of the bus. Please visit their website and vote for your
favorite one at www.Route1Ride.com.
