The Mansfield Kaseman Health Clinic is one of Montgomery County, Maryland's 12 safety net clinics that serve low income uninsured adults. We serve over 2000 clients, 70% of whom are Hispanic. We have a limited staff and use many volunteers to augment our services. One critical need we have is translation services. We are interested in establishing a long-term placement opportunity for students who might be interested in helping with translation within the clinic on an ongoing basis. Volunteers must be over 18 years old and be able to work a three to four hour shift, ideally at least twice a week. A student with a background or interest in health care would be ideal, since they will be expected to use some medical terminology in their work. We can also use part-time office assistants who can help answer the phones, do data entry, and help with filing. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
This would be an excellent opportunity for students interested in public health or access to health care to get some real world experience and make a contribution to the community. For more information on the clinic, see the web site at www.cmrocks.org/kaseman.
