My name is Bryan Pfeffer, president of College Mentors for Kids,
which is an exciting community service program that myself and a
few others will be bringing to campus this semester.College
Mentors for Kids is a mentorship program focusing on at-risk
youth local to large college campuses. It has been around for
over 20 years on other college campuses and currently serves 31
Universities. The program is set up to work with 1st-6th graders
in the community, in this case Prince George's County, and
brings these young students to our campus once a week to provide
a mentor and also show the opportunities that a college can
provide. Each Little Buddy is matched with a mentor for a two-
hour block, 2-4 on Wednesdays, where they will spend time doing
various programs around campus. We have partnered with the
University of Maryland Athletic Department, and believe that
support and membership from the College of Education would be
invaluable. Anyone who is interested in learning more and
potentially applying to be a mentor can contactumdcollegementors@gmail.com or
reach me at (732)-284-1735 with any questions. The application
process includes an online application as well as an in-person
interview with the Executive Board. More information can also be
found at collegementors.org. You
can also find our table at the First Look Fair on September 16th
and 17th.
This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and
foster meaningful relationships with children that need them
most. We cannot wait to add impassioned mentors to our
organization.
Sincerely,
Bryan Pfeffer and the College Mentors Team
