Prescription for Happiness mental health club seeks Executive Board members

Prescription for Happiness is a mental health club that seeks to promote mental health worldwide and address the importance of mental health by combating social issues and discussing the future of medicine. The Prescription for Happiness club itself looks at mental health from a medical standpoint. However, the club is not limited to students that are interested in the medical field.

One aspect of the club is our podcast, which looks at mental health from a public health perspective, in which we focus on societal issues and the impact it has on the public’s mental health. This includes issues such as racism, sexual assault, and much more. Another aspect of the club is promoting other mental health/medical organizations and charities through fundraisers and volunteering. Eventually, we also hope to volunteer at local inner city schools and educate children about the importance of mental health, while also helping people with their own. Not everyone is required to be a part of or speak in the podcast. Only individuals that indicate their interest will be given the opportunity to speak in it.

Currently, we are looking for passionate individuals who are willing to be a part of our executive board (the application formed will be linked below). Applications will be due on August 16th 2020 at 11:59pm. As our club begins to grow, we hope to add more initiatives along the way and be open to new suggestions.

If you have any questions, concern, or interest in being a part of this organization, please contact us through our email infoprescriptionforhappiness@gmail.com or contact us through our social media:

New Mental Health Service Needs Members

Are you interested in supporting students through mental health challenges? Do you hope to make a wider impact on campus? Are you ever the stand-in therapist, mom friend, or go-to tea spiller? Check out Lean On Me UMD (https://ter.ps/leanonme), a new, anonymous, peer-to-peer text line for UMD students to seek non-crisis mental health support. Lean On Me was founded in 2015 by MIT students and has chapters at eight other universities around the country.

Too often, students will not seek out the support they need from mental health services as they find services inaccessible or feel that their problems are not important enough to warrant reaching out. Lean On Me UMD will complement existing services at UMD with a mission to lower the barrier to entry for seeking emotional support by being anonymous, highly accessible, approachable, and involved in the community. We are recruiting for both supporters and leadership for this upcoming 2020-2021 year!

If you are interested, please apply by July 21th: ter.ps/leanonme
