Privacy Seminar Speaker:
Linda Koontz and Omar Rehman

The next visitors to our privacy honors seminar, HONR239R, will be
Linda Koontz and Omar Rehman, who talk on Privacy Policy in
Health Information Systems. They will address the many
challenges facing government and businesses which seek to balance
patient interests in privacy with the fast-moving technologies
being employed to improve and streamline health care delivery.
Ms. Koontz is a senior principal for Privacy and Strategy at
MITRE, where she advises senior-level staff at federal agencies
on strategic approaches to building privacy into their
organizations, processes, and systems. Drawing from her more
than 30 years' experience in information systems management and
technology, she currently advises the Chief Privacy Officer in
the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information
Technology on privacy issues associated with nationwide
implementation of health information exchange and manages the
activities of the Health Information Technology Policy
Committee's Privacy and Security Tiger Team. She is the editor
of the book, Information Privacy in the Evolving Healthcare
Environment, published by HIMSS in March 2013. She has also
provided privacy advice and support to the Department of
Homeland Security, and was recently appointed by the Secretary
to the Department's Data Protection and Integrity Advisory
Committee (DPIAC).
Omar Rehman is a Senior Healthcare Systems Analyst at the MITRE
Corporation. He currently supports the Office of the National
Coordinator for Health IT on matters of privacy and security
policy. He has 8 years of experience in Health Systems
Management, Health Information, Behavioral Healthcare, Data
Analysis, Information Management, Survey Methodology and
Research. He has supported the Department of Defense Military
Health System as a Policy Analyst at the Altarum Institute,
providing acquisition support and program evaluation. He also
supported a Global Health Case Studies effort as a primary
investigator Hong Kong's health information exchange
infrastructure. Omar has also assisted the Department of
Veterans Affairs Office of Nursing Services, creating a data
management solution to support the development of clinical
quality measures in cancer treatment.
