A discussion hosted by Adam Publicover and Dr. Marsha Guenzler-Stevens
Andrew
Publicover is a proud University Honors alum. Since graduating from
Maryland in 2006, he has been lucky enough to work for the U.S.
Department of State. Through the Woodrow Wilson Foundation's Pickering
Fellowship, Andrew completed an internship at the U.S. Embassy in
Beijing, China, and worked part-time in the State Department's Office of
Chinese Affairs while earning a master's degree in China Studies at the
Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. After entering
the Foreign Service as a career diplomat in 2008, Andrew worked as a
consular officer adjudicating applications for U.S. visas in Shanghai,
China. In 2011, he served as staff aide to the U.S. ambassador in
Kabul, Afghanistan. He is currently a Watch Officer in the State
Department Operations center, working rotating shifts to provide 24/7
coverage of breaking news and crises, and 24/7 communications support,
for the Secretary of State and senior officials. In his next
assignment, Andrew hopes to return overseas and serve as a political
officer at a U.S. embassy in Asia, reporting on political developments
and advocating U.S. policy.
