Join
the SGA Sustainability Committee and other UMD students on Monday,
February 23, to lobby our state legislators on passing a moratorium on fracking in
the state of Maryland. Serious health risks are associated with
fracking, including impaired neurological, respiratory, and
developmental systems, as well as birth defects and low birth weight in
children. Fracking also contaminates the air, water, and land--natural
resources we depend upon for healthy lives. Maryland deserves
comprehensive research to be conducted on these health threats before we
say GO to fracking--join us in lobbying for an 8 year moratorium on
fracking, so we don't have put our health at risk for a methane-emitting
energy source.
On Monday February 23 we will leave campus at 3pm to arrive in Annapolis at 4pm and attend a lobbying training with student environmental activists from around the state. We will lobby our state senators and delegates on environmental issues from 5-7pm, and rally for doubling MD's clean energy from 7-8pm. We will return to campus around 9pm. Come join us in protecting Marylanders' public health and the environment!!
