The School of Public Health, Global Public Health Scholars and the Maryland Half the Sky Student Movement
invites you to come to a screening of Half the Sky this coming Tuesday, Oct 22 at the Hoff Theater.
Half
the Sky is a movement inspired by the best-selling novel and the work
of journalists Nicholas Kristoff
and Sheryl WuDunn to turn oppression of women into opportunity
worldwide. Hidden in the overlapping problems of sex trafficking and
forced prostitution, gender-based violence, and maternal mortality,
women are facing gender-based violence all over the world.
The Half the Sky Movement at Maryland is not only raising awareness of
women’s issues, but also bringing together faculty, staff and students
to share ways to get involved in opportunities to empower women.
Come learn how you can be a part of the Maryland Half the Sky movement that is galvanizing campus and people
worldwide to confront these issues head on and become agents of meaningful change.
Following the documentary, a panel and discussion will take place including representatives from RAINN
and CARE.
***Snacks and drinks will be served and the first 30 people
to arrive will receive a free Half the Sky t-shirt***
