The University of Maryland is one of 14 universities affiliated with Ashoka, an international non-profit promoting social entrepreneurshipand evolution in business toward progressive, people-centric practice that can still be profitable. Social
entrepreneurship uses business principles and skills to eliminate
social or environmental issues in our local, national, or global
community.
The
Terp Changemaker team brings together students from across campus to
design, launch, and grow educational and co-curricular programs in
social entrepreneurship. Past projects have included College Park
Impact: a design-thinking brainstorm helping solve local business
challenges, Sustainnovate: a series of TED-style talks on
sustainability, and Transform Your World Film Festival. Social entrepreneurship is relevant to studies in all majors and there is room for all types of students on our team.
Team
members have the opportunity to work closely with the Center for Social
Value Creation at UMD as well as interact with Ashoka staff,
international social entrepreneurs, and students at other Changemaker
campuses across the country.
For more information, we encourage students to talk to us at First Look Fair, come by our Info Session, Tuesday, Sept 18, Van Munching 1333 from 5:30 to 7:30, and to check out our website at www.UMDchangemakers.com
