On September 29 to October 1, 2016,
we will hold the first ever Penn Honors Diversity (PHD) Symposium at
the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. This Symposium,
co-organized by many of the PhD programs at Penn, will emphasize student
diversity. It aims to particularly attract underrepresented students
(especially sophomores and juniors) at colleges and
universities in the Mid-Atlantic states who are interested in learning
more about graduate school.
The PHD Symposium
is a two-day plus program designed to provide a venue for the students
to (a) network with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate
students, (b) learn from them about cutting-edge research
and PhD training opportunities here at Penn, (c) present their work to
faculty and students in a poster session, and (d) attend workshops and
seminars about the admissions process, funding opportunities, life as a
graduate student, etc.
We hope to host 100 students and 30 program directors. The application is
now open. Applicants from the Mid-Atlantic states are encouraged to
apply; preference will be given to students from surrounding
undergraduate institutions within a 4 hour drive or train ride. All expenses will be paid for accepted students and invited
programs directors/faculty. The deadline for online application is May 1, 2016, and acceptances will be announced by the end of May. Additional information
will follow soon. For more information, please contact us at phds@exchange.upenn.edu
We hope that you will recommend this opportunity to your students. If you have questions, you are welcome to contact us at phds@exchange.upenn.edu.
Full information, including the online application, is available on the website at http://www.upenn.edu/pages/penn-honors-diversity.
