In the past year, The Diamondback has directed greater attention to the digital presentation of news, which includes becoming one of three student newspapers nationwide — the others are at Yale University and Columbia University — to partner with The Washington Post and test the Post's website software for practical use in our newsroom. We took this a step further and created The Diamondback Lab, a staff of web developers.
We are looking for innovative web developers at this university with a passion for front- and back-end
development. Full-time positions are paid a stipend every two weeks and
employees are expected to attend weekly meetings in the newsroom during
the school year.
Applicants
are required to understand Github, have basic UX design understanding
and a strong grasp on HTML/CSS/Javascript. PHP and other
web-coding-related experience is a plus.
The lab is
still in it's infancy, but The Diamondback offers an open environment
to work on and develop projects you're interested in as well as the
chance to manage others for larger assignments. In the end, it is about
offering real-world experience, solving tough questions for one of the
many publications moving toward a digital focus.
If
you are interested in a position, please send a resume and examples of
projects you've developed to Teddy Amenabar and Brittany Cheng at onlineumdbk@gmail.com.
