HONR359H The Conversation: Science/Humanities, Humanities/Science

Location: TBD; 1-credit

Tuesdays, 5:30PM -6:30PM, on the following dates: Oct 11, Oct 18, Oct 25, Nov 1, Nov 15, Nov 29, Dec 6

How do scientists think and talk about the humanities? How do humanists think and talk about science? What are the possibilities for fruitful dialogue between the sciences and the humanities? These are the central questions of this 1-credit seminar. In each session, your hosts/instructors – Dr. Luis Orozco (Physics) and Dr.
Susan Dwyer (Philosophy & Honors College) – will interview a faculty colleague each from different Department on campus. Your questions will be welcome.

This is a unique opportunity to learn in a new way outside a traditional classroom and to network with faculty and other students. Attendance at every meeting is required, as is a short (3-5pp) reflection paper, due on December 9, 2016. The class
will be graded S/F.

For more information, contact Dr. Susan Dwyer (dwyer@umd.edu). Please put HONR359H in the subject heading.
