ACES Program Coordinator Opening

ACES, the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students, is a four year undergraduate honors cybersecurity program within Maryland’s nationally ranked Honors College. Comprised of two linked academic programs, ACES includes a living-learning program for freshmen and sophomores, which launched in fall 2013 and currently has a community of over 150 students, and the ACES Minor in cybersecurity for juniors and seniors, which launched in spring 2016. ACES includes academic and extracurricular components, including events focused on community building, professional development, and education beyond the classroom.

Position Summary:

The ACES Coordinator provides assistance and support to the ACES Program. Primary responsibilities include extracurricular student programming, recruitment and marketing, advising students and student organizations, and tracking experiential learning participation.

The person in this position also assists as needed with other aspects of the ACES Program, and must be able to work frequently in the evenings and during weekends at events and meetings,. The Coordinator reports to the ACES Program Assistant Director.

 Experiential and Co-Curricular Programming (40%)

o Develop and plan ACES LLP student activities focused on education beyond the classroom, professional development, and community building

o Develop and send a weekly student newsletter communicating upcoming events and opportunities

o Develop and plan educational activities to complement the academic program for the ACES

Minor

o Manage the ACES Minor Colloquium Series, including arranging speakers and logistics for class meetings

o Attend monthly Honors College Programming Group meetings to update colleagues on program activities; work with Honors College colleagues to plan events for all honors students

 Recruitment, Orientation and Marketing (40%)

o Assist in preparing for annual recruitment and orientation events, including developing and updating promotional materials, ordering promotional items and arranging event logistics

o Coordinate recruitment efforts and ACES messaging with the Honors College

o Continue the development of the program’s presence on social media outlets, including

Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

o Develop content to be featured on social media outlets and the program website, including the student video project

o Advising and Experiential Learning (10%)

o Assist in tracking student participation in experiential learning activities (internships & research)

o Assist in administering regular student surveys, including tracking responses and following up with students who have not participated

o Advise ACES student organization(s)

o Managerial Duties (10%)

o Manage the ACES Graduate Assistant (s) and student worker(s)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, experience working with undergraduate students, and ability to work frequently in the evenings and on weekends is required. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills, be able to work with a wide range of students, staff, faculty, and administrators, have the ability to work both independently and cooperatively, and be flexible.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree and previous work in a college setting with student programming/event planning experience is preferred. Social media management experience is preferred. At least one year of professional work experience is preferred.
