ANTH405 - Anthropology of Human Rights (January 2019)

Following a consideration of the philosophical and legal foundations, an examination of human rights principles and practices in five policy domains: structured inequality, gender, indigenous livelihoods, migration, and climate change. Emphasizing an anthropological perspective, drawing heavily on fine-grained, ethnographic accounts to contextualize human rights violations and responses. 

Dr. Robert Winthrop served as senior social scientist at the Department of Interior's Bureau of Land Management (2002-2017). He is a cultural anthropologist and professional track faculty member in the Department of Anthropology.
