"False Monarchy" Opening Reception and Performance at The Stamp Gallery - 1/31

The Stamp Gallery in the STAMP Student Union proudly presents False Monarchy, a solo exhibition featuring recent drawing, video, and installation work by Philadelphia-based artist Kyle Kogut. False Monarchy is conceived as a complete, immersive environment, which uses the practices and symbols of occultism and the ubiquitous iconography of auto industry kitsch to explore the contemporary politics of American myth and despair. Kogut’s work examines the disturbing effects of America’s continued attachment to the myth of heavy industry as a miraculous source of economic growth and consumer euphoria. The exhibition will be of interest to those who study the relationships between class and American industry, as well as those with an interest in mysticism and the occult in contemporary culture.

Opening Reception and Performance: Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 6:308:30pm
Exhibition: January 24March 17, 2018
