The Child Development Lab, under the direction of
Dr. Nathan Fox, has an opening for an undergraduate research assistant.
Project Description
The
Child Development Lab is currently investigating the cognitive and
socio-emotional development of infants, children, and adolescents. As
part
of an ongoing, longitudinal study, undergraduate research assistants
will interact with subjects at their 12-14 year visit to the laboratory.
The scope of our research ranges from clinical interview to
neuroscience approaches including EEG and ERP.
In
addition, students may assist with data entry and the coding of
behavioral data and attend informational seminars on current research
being conducted in the field. Please e-mail
your unofficial transcript, resume, and Fall 2015 class schedule to CDLStudy@umd.edu.
Requirements
There
is a prerequisite of at least a 3.5 major GPA as well as an overall GPA
of 3.0. Psychology majors are also required to have completed 9 credit
hours in Psychology,
preferably including Research Methods. In addition, we would like
students to make a two-semester commitment to the lab. Learning our
procedures is time consuming, and it is common for the first semester to
consist primarily of training and mastering the required
skills. Thus, it is to the advantage of both the project and the
research assistant to spend two terms in the lab. Students who wish to
acquire more responsibility and skills in the second semester will be
given the opportunity to do so, either by working
individually with a graduate student or by taking on a special project.
