VOICES of Social Change presents Andy Shallal, Founder of Bus Boys and Poets

This Voices of Social Change event will take place in the Stamp's Grand Ballroom Lounge at 6PM.
Andy Shallal is an Iraqi-American artist, activist and restaurateur. He opened up Busboys and Poets at 14th and V Streets, NW Washington DC as a community-gathering place where racial and cultural connections are uplifted. Busboys and Poets is named after famed poet, Langston Hughes. Currently there are four locations in the DMV area.

Shallal has founded numerous peace movements and is the spokesperson for Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC), an organization that focuses on building peace through the advancement of human rights and advocating change in U.S. policy. He is a member of Restaurants Opportunities Centers United (ROC-United), whose mission is to improve wages and working conditions for restaurant workers.

Recently, Shallal kicked off his campaign for the Democratic nomination for Washington DC mayor. Shallal wants the District of Columbia “to be great for everyone, not just for some.
