Discover how YOU can make a positive global impact through action with the Maryland Social Entrepreneur Corps (MSEC).  Education Abroad is hosting an information session from 6-7pm on Thursday, February 6th highlighting two unique eight-week summer programs in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.  Hear stories from past UMD participants about their hands-on experience working in the field with local social entrepreneurs on development projects that bring lasting improvement to people’s lives.  Learn more about guaranteed scholarship opportunities and how you can earn nine academic credits for this transformative experience.  Join Maryland Social Entrepreneur Corps this summer and Do Something That Matters!   

WHAT IS MSEC?
The Maryland Social Entrepreneur Corps (MSEC) is a structured social impact immersion program where undergraduate students will engage and work directly with impoverished communities in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua promoting sustainable entrepreneurial solutions to development challenges.  Maryland students spend eight weeks during the summer working alongside experienced development professionals in the field as they support local social entrepreneurs in starting new micro-businesses and creating first-time access to affordable life-changing technologies, for isolated rural villages.

YOUR TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCE
·         Acquire substantive experience in on-site rural development work with some of the most innovative professionals working in the field
·         Immerse yourself in the local culture through individual Spanish language instruction and living in homestays
·         Develop skills in applying business solutions to create social impact
·         Become knowledgeable about creation of successful social entrepreneurship models, implementation strategies and tactics in addressing issues related to global poverty
·         Learn and practice effective methods for training, mentoring and supporting local entrepreneurs.
·         Hone your ability to translate knowledge and ideas into ACTION.
