The MICA Literary Journal
will provide a space for all UMD community members (students, staff,
and faculty) to artistically
address/speak to/work through issues and topics related to: diversity,
identity, leadership, and social change. All artistic mediums will be
welcomed (photography, poetry, plays, short stories, audio and visual
performances...).
The journal will be a student-driven initiative. You will play an integral role in the entire creative process including:
selection of the journal title, mission, themes, calls for submissions, editing, design and layout, release parties, and displays/exhibits.
The
first issue will be launched electronically during the Spring 2014
semester- with the goal of securing funding to produce hardcopies at a
later date.
You will work with both academic and non-academic units on campus throughout the creation process and will be encouraged
to find ways of tying the experience to your academic and career pursuits. In alignment with the MICA mission, the literary journal promotes the use of art in addressing social inequality and will serve as a space that affirms UMD community members and their
identities. Members of the literary team will
become part of a diverse community in which you will have opportunities
to enhance and practice your leadership skills, while acquiring design,
writing, editing, and publishing experience.
