The Catalyst Seminar is a 1-credit course for second semester freshmen that is designed to enhance your professional development by introducing you to opportunities in undergraduate research. Part of the semester consists of workshops to introduce you to the culture of chemical and life sciences research. Another part of the semester consists of faculty presenting overviews of the research they are conducting in their labs. The seminar will meet each Monday, from 3:30 to 4:45 pm in room 1243 Biology/Psychology Building. To participate, you must enroll in a 1-credit course, which is cross-listed as BSCI 279C / BSCI 279H, during pre-registration for the Spring 2014 semester. You can find the syllabus and course materials on the course web site http://hhmi.umd.edu/catalystseminar To be eligible to enroll in the Catalyst Seminar you should *be majoring in (or contemplating majoring in) chemistry, biochemistry, general biology or one of the biological sciences specialization areas *have completed one semester of General Chemistry or Introductory Biology (CHEM 131, BSCI 106, BSCI 105 or their equivalents) *maintain a 3.0 overall grade point average Please note: If you fail to meet these criteria at the beginning of the spring semester you may be administratively dropped from the course.
