Course Credit:
For UMD undergraduate students, this 6-credit course meets the UMD General Education Requirements for Scholarship in Practice (DSSP) and Cultural Competence (CC). For BSCI students, the course fulfills your ECEV enrichment requirement.
Graduate credits are also available.
About the course:
This course is a rare opportunity to learn and work with the Kayapo and a network of local, national and international actors in the Brazilian Amazon including institutions of higher education from the United States and Brazil, indigenous NGO, and local communities. The program offers an immersive field experience learning about conservation, indigenous rights, and development in Brazil. This interdisciplinary course touches upon a range of topics including anthropology, tropical ecology, sustainable development and international education. Participating student are encouraged to incorporate their own interests and perspectives into the course.
