The Iranian Graduate Students Foundation (IGSF),
a non-profit, non-religious, non-political student organization, at the University of Maryland
will be celebrating the International Day of Nowruz* on
March 11, 2016. To
promote diversity and inclusion of people from other cultures who
celebrate this day, this year we have organized
a multicultural and highly diverse festivity incorporating Persian,
Afghan and Tajik cultures. Our event features an evening rife with
authentic Persian food and entertainment ranging from live performance
by Afghan singers, traditional Tajik Dance (Performed
by Silk Road Company) to Persian poet reading and more. To top it all,
our guest can dance to "Exclusively Entertainment" DJ Payam's tunes to
conclude the celebration.
*Nowruz
which has been recognized by the United Nations as an official holiday
is a 2500 years old tradition celebrated by some 500 million people in
many countries around
the world including Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan,
Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and India.
