Career Gear Week - Feb. 3-6

Honors students now have an opportunity to participate in a week-long professional development series. Career Gear Week aims to bring several important campus offices to your doorstep, and provide you with the resources to exceed in your career as a honors student as well as after graduation. All of the events take place from 5pm-6pm in either LaPlata or Anne Arundel.






Tips For Networking, Creating Your Elevator Pitch, And Preparing For The Career And Internship Fair

This program will focus mostly on preparing Honors College students for the University Career Center’s Spring Career & Internship Fair (scheduled for February 11th-13th), including researching organizations, creating your elevator pitch, targeting your elevator pitch, following up with employers after the fair/any other networking event, and more.  The program will be led by Erica Ely, Program Director for Internships, at the University Career Center & The President’s Promise.

This program will focus on preparing Honors College students for participation in study abroad programs, both through the Education Abroad office and external programs. Topics will include how to select a program, how to fit study abroad into your schedule, and what to prepare for before, during, and after a study abroad experience. Receive advice from fellow students who have recently completed study abroad programs, and learn about hidden resources on and off campus.

Resume And Cover Letter Workshop

Learn how to shine in this competitive internship and job market.  Through this workshop, you’ll gain an employer’s perspective on resumes and learn to evaluate your application from their eyes.   We’ll go through the common resume pitfalls and examine what works and what doesn’t and why.  You will leave with the tools necessary to write/ revise your resume and cover letter, connect with faculty about letters of recommendation, and effectively network within your field.
