The Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowships provide financial support through two years of graduate study, internships, mentoring, and professional development activities leading to an appointment in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. The application deadline is October 14, 2020. Our wonderful panelists, Cameron Torreon, Aaron Bhatt, and Sarahaan Yeh (all alumni of our program), will also share their experience working at the U.S. Embassy, Foreign Service, Boren, Fulbright, graduate school, and internship experiences.

Cameron Torreon (Federal Fellow '12, U.S. Foreign Policy) graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UMD in Government and Politics with a minor in Spanish Language and Literature.  He received the highly competitive Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship and through the program pursued his Master's degree in International Affairs at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).  After graduating in 2017, Cameron joined the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer and served his first-tour at the US Embassy Jakarta in Indonesia.   

Aaron Bhatt (Global Fellow '14, Science Diplomacy) graduated from UMD with a B.A. Cum Laude in Economics and Government & Politics, with a minor in Arabic.  He is a 2015 Charles B. Rangel Scholar and 2018 Rangel Graduate Fellow. He recently completed his Master in Public Administration at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, focusing on Energy, Environment, and Management. He was awarded the Boren Scholarship and studied Arabic in 2016-2017 in Meknes, Morocco through the Arabic Flagship Program. Prior to the Department of State, Aaron worked at Chemonics International on USAID projects in East and Southern Africa, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Census Bureau. 

Sarahann Yeh (Global Fellow '15, Science Diplomacy) was awarded a highly competitive Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship to prepare her for a career in the Foreign Service. She received her M.A. at Johns Hopkins SAIS and is currently serving as a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State. Previously she was awarded a 2016-2017 Fulbright Grant to teach English in Indonesia. Yeh graduated from UMD with a B.S. Summa Cum Laude in Biology/Biological Sciences. She was named a Philip Merrill Presidential Scholar and is an alumna of the College Park Scholars Life Sciences program. She also is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.
