Pop-Up event: Monday Sept. 30 6:00 p.m.: Dir. of Comm. for Presid. of Finland: on disinformation

ANNOUNCEMENT: EXTRAORDINARY POP-UP EVENT, Honors students welcome! 

Where and When: Monday Sept. 30, 6-8 p.m., in FED/GLOBAL Suite, 2407 Marie Mount Hall.  (Heartfelt apologies for the date, which coincides with Rosh Hashanah.)   

SPEAKER: Jouni Mölsä, the new Director of Communications for the President of the Republic of Finland.  (stopping by after UN meetings to speak to our fabulous UMD students!)

THEME: Big Challenges in an Age of Disinformation.  Topics include the weaponizing of information, how it is done, a battle of ideologies, fake news, where nations are on this issue. etc.  Bring your own concerns!  Time for discussion is built in!

Here is his bio:

President of the Republic of Finland has appointed Jouni Mölsä, Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, as his Director of Communications.

HIs former position was as Director of Communications at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Mölsä was very recently on assignment at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union in Brussels. He has previously worked as a Press Counsellor at the Finnish Embassy in London, political reporter for the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper and radio producer at BBC World Service in London. He was selected as the Communication Professional of the Year in 2016 by ProCom, the Finnish Association of Communication Professionals.

Mölsä took up the post of Director of Communications and Cabinet member on 1 September 2019.
