National Suicide Prevention Week 9/9 - 9/13/2019


  • Tuesday, 9/10 Semicolon Stickers 10am-2pm on the Quad between SCC1 & 2 Semicolon Tattoos 3-6pm on the Washington Quad The semicolon is used to represent a pause when folx may have thought to end their lives, but chose to continue on. This mimics the idea that when folx could have used a period to end a sentence, they instead chose to continue.
  • Wednesday, 9/11 Wellness Seminar from the Campus Happiness Project (SKY@UMD) 7-8pm in the Ellicott Diner (fireplace room) Participants will explore the five dimensions of wellness and practical tools for connection and greater self-awareness. Interactive practice of meditation, breathing techniques, mindfulness and social connection exercises.
  • Thursday, 9/12 Seize the Awkward & Talk about It! 6-8pm in ESJ 0224 The evening starts with a screening of It’s Real, which follows six students with a variety of mental health challenges. After the video, Dr. Tammi Ginsburg, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Board President will lead Talk Saves Lives, teaching us to talk to each other about suicidality.
  • Friday, 9/13 Semicolon Flash Tattoos 1-3pm on the Denton Community Quad The semicolon is used to represent a pause when folx may have thought to end their lives, but chose to continue on. This mimics the idea that when folx could have used a period to end a sentence, they instead chose to continue.
