The University of Maryland’s independent student-run newspaper, The Diamondback, is hiring for the spring semester!
News staff writers write at least two stories per week covering a city, state or campus beat. They work with editors to pitch, report and edit stories in a timely and accurate manner. Perks also include getting paid biweekly, and attending a weekly staff meeting with a lively crew of fellow reporters.
If you’d like to apply for the the desk, send a resume, cover letter and three writing samples by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 to news editors Leah Brennan and Jillian Atelsek at newsumdbk@gmail.com.
Diamondback reporters have held jobs and internships at a plethora of news outlets, including The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, Politico, Tampa Bay Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, the Associated Press, Newsday, Reuters, USA TODAY and others. You’ll have the opportunity to build up your clips and produce potentially award-winning coverage while working your beat. Coverage ranges from breaking news and daily stories to enterprise pieces and special projects.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Leah or Jillian at newsumdbk@gmail.com, or text them at 301-456-3339 and 301-524-0948, respectively.
