Get Paid to Program is an after school club for high school girls from underrepresented and low-SES backgrounds to get engaged in computer science. The program is funded by the National Center for Women in Computing & Google.org and is run by the GraduateWomen in Computing group at UMD.
If you are:
- Female: Our grant requires that we have female students instruct our program to ensure that our students have access to female role-models.
- Some experience with HTML/CSS: Have some experience with web programming, enough to teach the fundamentals, with some curriculum and advisory support, and help students debug.
- Teaching Oriented: Interested in teaching high school girls and designing lessons with a co-teacher based on existing curriculum
- Free Wednesday Afternoons: You are available from *230-330pm on Wednesdays* for 10 weeks (Oct 18 to Dec 20 (some flexibility for last day)). The program is at Montgomery Blair High School which can be reached by bus (~30 minutes, C2) or car (~13 minutes) from UMD.
- Want to Earn Some $$$: Earn $20 / teaching session

- Want to Do Outreach: Are excited about getting high school girls from underrepresented backgrounds interested in CS
- Potentially Want to Be Involved in Education Research: The plan is to evaluate the program through pre- and post-surveys and publish the findings at a CS-education or inclusion-related conference such as SIGSE or TAPIA
