$400,000 available for Sustainability Fund projects

This year, the University Sustainability Fund has approximately $400,000 available for projects to promote environmental sustainability and positively impact the student experience at University of Maryland. Grants are supported by student fees and administered through the University Sustainability Council.

Applications are now being accepted for 2017-2018 projects. The priority deadline for applications is October 15th with a final deadline of January 15th. Apply now.

Since 2010, more than $1.8 million has been granted to 109 sustainability projects including Terp Farm, the Sphagnum Moss Water Treatment System at Eppley Recreation Center, the Partnership for Action Learning in Sustainability (PALS), lighting upgrades, rain gardens, research projects, and many more. Some of these projects are featured in a video on the Big Ten Network. 

The Fund allocates money to projects that increase the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency of our campus facilities, reduce the amount of waste created and material resources used on campus, encourage sustainable behaviors, and integrate sustainability into teaching, research, and service at the university. We encourage projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or have other measurable environmental benefits.
