1.       Goldman Sachs Junior Fellowship

·         *Intern & Fellows Office (IFO) Multicultural Junior Fellow – AFRO-LATINO PUBLIC PROGRAM INTERN
The student will learn about developing a public program. The series they will be focusing on celebrates the legacy of Afro-Latinos in the United States. For example, Arturo Schomburg, a black Puerto Rican bibliophile who African-American scholars like Carter G. Woodson, The Father of African-American History, benefitted from his collection of Pan-African scholarly works. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}.
·         *Intern & Fellows Office (IFO) Multicultural Junior Fellow – 2013 IMTAL CONFERENCE INTERN
The student will learn about organizing a conference with the Daily Programs division of the museum. The 2013 IMTAL Global Conference will focus on creativity and innovation in today’s Museum Theatre. In 2013, Museum Theatre is a proven, tested, educational approach in the field of museum studies. It is also an art form bringing the best of performance to museum visitors of all ages. But how is the field continuing to evolve? The 2013 Global conference will bring together practitioners, researchers, performers, and museum professionals from around the world to discuss, debate, present, and share examples of how the field is evolving and innovating. ·         *Intern & Fellows Office (IFO) Multicultural Junior Fellow – 2013 NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT INTERN
The student will learn about the development of the National Youth Summit and its pre-session materials.  Working under the supervision of the education outreach division, the fellow would assist in the design and development of lessons and activities that prepare high school students to participate in the Summit.  The fellow would also support the Department of Education and Public Programs in coordinating high level concept meetings for the panel discussion and in contacting and confirming panelists for the program. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}.

Ø  *Multicultural Junior Fellows applicants must be part of a U.S. minority group (i.e. African-American, Latino-American, Asian Pacific Islander-American, Native American)          

·         New Media Junior Fellow – BLOGGING ASSISTANT
As an O Say Can You See? The blog intern will function as a junior editor, working largely independently with appropriate guidance from the managing editor. The intern will play a key role in helping the Museum to broaden access—a strategic goal of the Smithsonian Institution, using new media and social networking tools to foster understanding of the American experience, identities, and places in the nation’s narrative and bring our resources to those who cannot visit in person. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}.
·         Development/Fundraising Junior Fellow – DEVELOPMENT INTERN
The position will focus on fundraising projects within the Development and Special Events Offices and work with all members of the staff in those departments as well as with Curatorial staff and the Museum’s Sr. leadership.   We really do want someone who is a strong writer—so that is the most important quality for us and, if the Fellow has an interest in/love for history.  We seek a motivated, self-driven, creative individual with strong inter-personal skills.  Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}.

• American Enterprise Exhibit Junior Fellow – AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INTERN

Participate in the development of a new 8,000 sq ft exhibition, American Enterprise. Intern will participate in exhibition planning meetings, examine collections already in the museum, seek new artifacts for the exhibition, and research specific topic areas. Additionally, the intern will participate in a variety of museum wide opportunities such as colloquiums, tours, and general meetings. Summer 2013 – $9,600/640 hours {16 weeks}.

 

2.       National Museum of American History Summer Intern (unpaid)

·         There are opportunities for internships in across our museum departments which include but not limited to: Archives Center, Curatorial Divisions, Collections Management, Public Affairs, Development/Fundraising, Special Events, Graphic Production, Exhibit Design, Project Management, Education/Interpretation, Public Programs, New Media and Visitor Services.
