SEE THE WORLD IN ONE PLACE: World Expo in Dubai

Travel over the break for a week-long once-in-lifetime learning and cultural experience. With the World's Fair currently taking place in Dubai, this is an incredible time to visit and a professional development opportunity that can't be repeated later. For nearly two centuries, Expos – also known as World Fairs – have showcased important scientific, cultural, and architectural achievements – including the telephone, color televisions, dishwasher X-rays, touchscreens, Eiffel Tower, and the Space Needle, among others.  By weaving together discovery, education and authentic local experiences, the World Expo experience will provide new insights and fresh perspectives to enrich your undergraduate experience. Through participation in the World Expo students will be networking with people from all parts of the world.  The World Expo Dubai is the single biggest showcasing event of a nation outside of its borders and it's a global extravaganza of culture, innovation, science, architecture, art and entertainment with more than 190 participating countries. Students will be able to explore the country pavilions with stunning architectural design and enjoy the world’s food, art, theater, incredible technology, sports and breathtaking entertainment, all in one place. More information regarding the Expo is at https://www.expo2020dubai.com/

Dubai is one of the most captivating places in the world to visit. More than 450 UMD students have traveled to the UAE.  The frequent trips to the UAE have resulted in strong professional relationships that enable exclusive unique access to the UAE’s government officials, business and cultural leaders, local families, and locations off-the-beaten-path for a more complete understanding of the country’s political, historical, religious, and cultural narratives.

The U.S. State Department’s advisory for the UAE is Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions and the CDC’s advisory for the country is Level 1: Low Level of COVID-19. These are the lowest levels. The World Expo gathering is being regulated by strict precautions. The UAE has also been recognized by the World Travel & Tourism Council and received its Safe Travels stamp for its safety protocols in place.
