The University of Maryland Student Government Association is conducting a survey regarding affordable housing in College Park.

This survey will take roughly 7-10 minutes to complete and we encourage students to complete the entirety of the survey in order for us to have informative data to learn more about and to address affordable housing. The survey will ask for students' UID and UMD email addresses in order to ensure unique responses from university students. Following the collection of the data, the student government will compile a report and presentation to make to the campus administration, along with both the city and county councils as we continue to tackle affordable housing in College Park. This survey is for all UMD students, whether they live on or off-campus. We ask that all responses are in by March 10. The link for the survey is ter.ps/SGAhousing.

Join The University of Maryland Chapter of The Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program (UMCP KDSAP) for the second event of our Ask an Expert Speaker Series on Thursday, March 11th from 6-7pm

KDSAP will host a student-led dialogue on the journey to medicine, residency, and professional development in the field of urology and medical research. Our featured guest speaker is Dr. Kevin Pineault MD, a UMD alum and first-year urology resident doctor at NYU-Langone Health. A few words from our speaker:

“Hello everyone! I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Bioengineering in May 2016. While at UMCP, I participated in multiple organizations including residence life as an RA, the UMD Pre-medical Society, and undergraduate research with Associate Prof. Christopher Jewell in the department of bioengineering, where I completed my undergraduate research thesis. I continued my medical degree at Johns Hopkins University where I got involved in pediatric oncology, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, and urology clinical research. I'm now a first year urology resident at NYU Langone Health where I'm continuing research in urologic oncology and male infertility. When not in the hospital, I can be found running along the East River, citi-biking around Central Park, and eating too much pizza and lox bagels at my favorite Murray Hill local spots. I look forward to answering your questions about anything related to medical school, residency, research and anything else!”

Please register for the event at ter.ps/kdsapuro prior to the event, and submit any questions you may have for Dr. Pineault at ter.ps/kdsapuroqa. We hope to see you there!

2021 Day Of Mourning A candlelight vigil to remember the people with disabilities murdered by caregivers. March 1

 2021 Day Of Mourning

A candlelight vigil to remember the people with disabilities murdered by caregivers.

March 1 | 4 - 5 PM | Zoom | Register at go.umd.edu/dayofmourning21

“Mourn for the dead, and fight like hell for the living.” - Mother Jones

People with disabilities are twice as likely as non-disabled people to be victims of violent crime. Every year, the national media covers dozens of stories about murders of people with disabilities by family members or caregivers, and many more go unnoticed.

Too often, the coverage focuses on sympathy for the murderer, because they had to live with or care for a person with a disability. The message to the public is that our lives, not our deaths, are the tragedy.

On March 1st, join the Autistic Self Advocacy Network in remembering people with disabilities who lost their lives at the hands of family members or caregivers. We will remember those we have lost and remind the world that their lives had value.
