Support Gemstone Team METR (Musicians’ Experiential Trauma Research)

Team METR (Musicians’ Experiential Trauma Research) has been conducting research over the past year that investigates occupational health disorders in musicians called playing-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMDs). These painful disorders are estimated to affect up to 78.5% of guitar players and can cause disabling pain as well as loss of income for musicians. Our research will utilize innovative technology, developed by the University of Maryland and Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, to assess the biomechanical variables associated with PRMDs. Our research will be used to uncover practical methods of prevention and treatment of PRMDs to ensure that musicians around the world have pain-free experiences while playing their instruments! But before we can do this, we need your help to fund our project! Our study requires musicians to participate and demands lab equipment to measure and analyze playing behavior.
