UN Day 2017

The United Nations Association (UNA-UMD) club on campus will be hosting UN Day 2017 on Tuesday, October 24th.
The goal of our chapter is to support the principles and vital work of the UN, strengthen the UN system and promote leadership opportunities for UMD students to advocate, educate and inform on behalf of the United Nations.

This year, on the UN’s 72nd birthday, our celebration theme is “Global Goals, Local Leaders,” in which we’re honoring local champions of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. UNA-UMD will be hosting speaker Taylor Gates, a Campaign Coordinator at Shot@Life, a global immunizations campaign with the UN Foundation. Her talk will be followed by a robust discussion regarding the local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and how we as UMD students can work to promote and achieve these goals in our campus community. The event can be found on Facebook here.

The formal event will take place that Tuesday from 8:00-9:15PM in the Armory, room 0131. I am reaching out because I believe this event may appeal to Honors students; the event provides a great opportunity for students interested in international affairs, public health, climate action, and sustainability to get involved in bettering our own campus while thinking about larger, global issues.
