How to Craft an Impactful Life in the Community and in the Political Arena--the Versatility of a Law Degree! - 10/17

Featured Speaker: Paul Monteiro, UMD alumnus.  Past positions include National Director, AmeriCorps VISTA; Acting Director, Community Relations Service, U.S. Department of Justice; Public Engagement Advisor, The White House; Deputy Director of Religious Affairs, Presidential Inaugural Committee; etc. Paul currently serves as Chief of Staff for the President of Howard University, and he is also running for County Executive in Prince George’s.  At UMD, Paul has given Honors seminars, gave a blockbuster keynote speech for the Honors Convocation last year, and gave a galvanizing keynote speech for the inaugural meeting of the Federal and Global Fellows Alumni Group!  Paul also received a citation from the National Security Council for his work on international projects including the Global Entrepreneurship Summit and refugee resettlement.

Paul Monteiro will talk with students about his career—including working at the White House and for AmeriCorps—and about his passion for politics and public service.  He will give tips for success and for making a difference in the world.  He will be very open to questions of all kinds! 

He also has internship opportunities and can talk about how to craft successful internship (and job) applications!
