Fossil fuel divestment calls for removing the University's investments from fossil fuel companies, and reinvesting in clean, renewable energy companies as well as other socially responsible investments.
Right now, the University System of Maryland invests approximately $70 million in dirty energy companies (coal and natural gas). We are profitting from the industry MOST responsible for climate change, the worst effects of which will disproportionately affect low income, minority communities. Divestment is about fighting for SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE!
