Hosts Needed for Admitted Students from Underrepresented Populations on Campus for Overnight Stay

Every spring the University of Maryland Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosts admitted students from underrepresented populations on campus in an overnight stay program called EDGE (Experience Diversity, Growth, & Excellence). This is a very successful one-night stay program where we can attract talented students to the University of Maryland and show what vibrant and exciting experiences and opportunities we can offer them here.

We are looking for talented students like you to be hosts for our program. And because you all hosted students for us last year (or participated as a prospective high school student) and made EDGE the single most high-yielding admission event, we’d love to have you host!

There will be two separate 2016 EDGE overnight programs this year:
·         April 7th-8th
·         April 14th-15th

SAVE THE DATES:
-Host Training will be March 3rd from 5:30 to 7pm in the Visitor’s Center. We will interview all hosts during the training. If you are unable to make it to host training, please let me (ashjjohn@umd.edu) know as soon as possible so that I or my co-chair Emily may interview you (ejl10@umd.edu).

We will provide all hosts with a pizza dinner during host training as well as a dinner option the night of the event for you and your student.

Your participation with this program will help us have a positive impact on the enrollment of underrepresented students at the University of Maryland. Hosts are an integral part of this program and we are very appreciative of your assistance. Please let me know if you would like to participate again this year by completing the attached form and returning it by email or in person to myself (Ashley) or Emily in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions located in the Mitchell Building.

I would also like to take this time to re-introduce myself. My name is Ashley Johnson and I will be working with Emily Leonard this year to Co-Chair the 2016 EDGE Program. This is Emily’s second year working with me on the EDGE and she is excited to be working with returning and new hosts this year! I am returning for my third year, and hope to make EDGE bigger and better than last year. Emily and I are both excited for a successful EDGE program and hope you are too! So you guys also know EDGE is our biggest yield event, meaning that a majority of our guests who come to campus for EDGE will end up attending UMD! Last year 75% of the students who participated in EDGE are now Terps!

Please contact me at ashjjohn@umd.edu, Emily at ejl10@umd.edu if you would be interested in participating in any or all of these dates. If you have any friends who might be interested in hosting this year, please feel free to forward to them as well.
