AmeriCorps outreach opportunities with great organization! (Paid Positions)

Calling all Change Makers!

 The Maryland Multicultural Youth Center AmeriCorps program is looking for dedicated members to join their 2015-2016 team! AmeriCorps members serve one-year terms, assisting with in-school and after-school programs for middle school students It’s a great way to gain hands on experience while giving back to your community!
Members receive a living stipend bi-weekly as well as an education award at the end of their term. AmeriCorps members can serve in either full time or part time positions, and help make their communities stronger.

The AmeriCorps program with the Latin American Youth Center/Maryland Multicultural Youth Center is recruting for next year’s cohort of AmeriCorps members.  This is a perfect opportunity for any students or recent graduates, who might be interested in joining the 2016-2017 team!  The program places Americorps members in title-1 public schools to assist with in school and after school programs.  Members receive a living stipend as well as an education award at the end of their term.

We have both full time and part time slots available, and It’s a great way to earn money while giving back to their community and is often referred to as the domestic peace corps!

Early Summer NSF Graduate Fellowship Info Sessions

ARE YOU PLANNING GRADUATE STUDIES TOWARD A PH.D. IN SCIENCE, MATH, ENGINEERING, OR SOCIAL/BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES FIELDS?

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship is the largest and one of the most prestigious awards available to support graduate studies toward Ph.D.’s in science, math, engineering, and social/behavioral science fields. Beat the winter blues: Study in Spain this January with UMD!



We are excited to announce that UMD students will have the opportunity to study in Seville, Spain this January! Students will explore the Mediterranean and Transatlantic contexts that have influenced and shaped Spain’s history, identity, cultural and artistic expressions. Course credit can be given for either SPAN225, HONR248E, SPAN399C, or SPAN699E.

This engaging program includes excursions that will take students across Andalucia to monuments such as La Alhambra of Granada and La Mezquita of Córdoba. They will stay with local Spanish families while in Seville and in hotels when traveling. Housing, meals, local transportation, and excursions are included in the program fee.

Medical Receptionist / Medical Assistant Position in a Dermatology Office

At Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Center, LLC, we celebrate the diversity of all skin colors and all skin types.  We are dedicated to using innovative techniques to treat the medical, surgical, and cosmetic needs of our patient’s skin, hair, and nails.  We treat every patient with kindness, dignity, and respect.

This private dermatology practice in North Bethesda near White Flint Mall is looking for a full-time medical receptionist / assistant (40 hours/week) to start as soon as possible. Training will be provided at the office, no prior certification is required. A two-year commitment is preferred. 

The office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 5:15 PM. 

Job Responsibilities include primarily front office duties along with back office duties:
Answer phones, schedule appointments, insurance and billing, receive and process prescription requests, assist with procedures and surgeries, prepare exams rooms, clean and sterilize instruments, etc.

This is the perfect position for a future health care professional who wants to learn all of the aspects of running a patient-centered private practice! Previous employees have gone on to medical school, nursing school, dental school, and graduate school.

Eligible candidates should be extremely reliable.  You will be working very closely with the two doctors, so it is imperative that you are dependable and trustworthy.  There will be a lot of patient interaction, so customer service skills are a must.

Summer Undergrad Research Assts. Wanted

Interested in gaining hands-on research experience?
 
The Family Involvement Laboratory IS LOOKING FOR BILINGUAL (Spanish/English) UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTS for the summer.

Students will serve as research assistants for the Family Involvement Lab project Baby Books 2, which is an intervention for low income mothers, fathers, & young children. The goal of the study is to understand the reading practices of these mothers’ & fathers.
Research assistants will participate in data collection; recruit parents; schedule visits; & enter data. 

Effective communication skills and a passion for working with families with young children is required. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing graduate work in the social sciences. Depending on interest & skill-level, there will be opportunities to write honors theses and participate in papers for publication.
