Environmental Writing Contest - $500 Prize

A sustainability and lifestyle-focused online publication,  Peaceful Dumpling , is hosting an Environmental Writing Contest.  The contest is soliciting fiction, non-fiction, and poetry submissions that must relate to issues such as climate change, environment, conservation, or animal rights. PD is particularly seeking student submissions, and it's a great opportunity for Honors students to get published and recognized for their work. There's also a $500 prize!

Paid Summer Internships - Communications Support and Data Analysis
Position Type: On-Campus, Part-Time or Full-Time


Description:
The Office of the Vice President for Administration & Finance seeks energetic, highly motivated,
and detail-oriented studentsto assist with administrative tasks and other projects as assigned.
Must be available to work 20-40 hours/week. This is a paid position.

The Division of Administration & Finance departments play an integral role in campus operations and contribute greatly to the community experience at the university. The Vice President oversees
Community Engagement; Environmental Safety, Sustainability, and Risk; Facilities Management;
Finance; University Human Resources; Procurement and Strategic Sourcing; Public Safety; and Real
Estate.

Projects will be assigned based on qualifications and interests and may include:
• Assisting with communications projects, including, but notlimited to:
o Drafting documents, electronic newsletters, and other communications materials
o Assisting with logistics for meetings and special events
o Designing posters, flyers, and other outreach materials
o Supporting ongoing website projects for the division (updating websites via Drupal
CMS, writing and editing website content, conducting research on website
development and design, etc.)

• Assisting with business analytics and data management projects, including, but not limited to:
o Conducting financial, market, operational, and other research to support strategic and
business planning
o Preparing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
o Interpreting and evaluating research data
• Assisting with special projects related to employee engagement initiatives and more
• Answering phones, greeting guests, processing mail, and other clerical duties as needed

Qualifications:
Must be a current University of Maryland undergraduate or graduate student. A minimum 3.0
cumulative GPA is recommended. All applicants with the requisite skills will be considered;
students with an area ofstudy related to communications, journalism, marketing, business
administration (finance, information systems, management, operations management and
business analytics), or graphic design are strongly encouraged to apply.

Required:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Eager to learn in a professional setting
• Ability to maintain a consistent and reliable schedule
• Discretion, and an understanding of the confidentially associated with a Vice President’s office

Desired:
• Basic photography skills
• Knowledge or experience with website and/or database management
• Experience with online research
• Familiarity with Microsoft Access, MailChimp, Drupal, InDesign, Premier Pro, and Photoshop a
plus
• Advanced skills in analytics

Undergraduate Neuroscience Research Opportunity For Summer 2019 and next school year


The Laboratory for Thinking, Reasoning, Creativity, & Educational Neuroscience is seeking undergraduate research assistants to help with multiple brain imaging studies -using state-of-the-art function near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) methods- over the summer and into the next school year (2019-20). We encourage freshman and sophomores interested in cognitive neuroscience, human development, and education to apply. Undergraduate Research Assistant Position at Comprehensive Assessment and Intervention
Program (CAIP)

Description:
The Comprehensive Assessment and Intervention Program (CAIP), directed by Dr. Andres De Los
Reyes, conducts clinic-based research trying to understand the best ways to assess and treat
behavioral and emotional problems in children and adolescents. Students in the CAIP Lab
receive extensive research and clinical training in diagnostic and treatment protocols for specific
psychological conditions in childhood and adolescence, namely social anxiety in teenagers. The

CAIP laboratory seeks to improve methods for assessing adolescent social anxiety and parent-
adolescent interactions.

Much of our research could be of interest to students wishing to pursue graduate work in a
variety of fields, such as clinical, developmental, cognitive and social psychology areas, social
work, counseling, and medicine.

Responsibilities:
- Recruit and assist in the completion of study assessments
- Train to administer computer-based, behavioral, and structured interview assessments
- Administering, interpreting and scoring physiological assessments
- Manage data collection
- Assist on weekends, with training at regular intervals during the week

Requirements:
- Commit to two consecutive semesters of service
- Minimum of 10 hours a week of volunteer work
- With the exception of religious observances, we expect volunteers to commit to assisting on
weekend assessments

Qualifications:
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Detail oriented
- Organizational Skills
- Interpersonal Skills

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Honors Program Capstone Symposium
Mark your calendars for Monday, May 13th for Terp Tank 2019! 

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (EIP) capstone project is the culmination of two years of study in the program. 

EIP second-semester sophomores work in teams to develop a for-profit business plan that achieves multiple bottom-lines of both profitability and social benefit. These projects address the global necessity to develop and implement solutions to critical social and environmental concerns in ways that are both technologically viable and economically sustainable. 

The capstone project and course culminate in the "Terp Tank" competition, where EIP sophomores preparing to complete the course sequence present their Capstone Projects to a panel of judges for the chance to win cash prizes from supporting sponsors.

Aaron Shapiro graduated from UMD in 2011 with a major in Global Health (through Individual Studies, IVSP) and a minor in International Development and Conflict Management. He was also one of the original Global Health Corps Fellows--in Rwanda! He was a National Health Service Corps Scholar, with a focus on providing quality healthcare to underserved populations. He is about to start residency in Primary Care Social Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center.  Aaron is also the founder and executive director of Citizen Physicians, a non-partisan, non-issue-based start up organization dedicated to training the next generation of health care practitioners in effective civic engagement. Aaron is graduating with his MD from Brown University and received his MPH from Johns Hopkins.  He is happy to answer any questions--on anything, including how to succeed in medical school and have a great life!!  Feel free to bring friends (list on rsvp too)
