African Languages Association 2018-2019 Executive Board Application

Application Deadline: October 12th at 11:59 pm

The African Languages Association (ALA) is a student organization at the University of Maryland, College Park. It was founded in 2017 to provide free African language classes in the absence of official African language classes offered by the university. Since its founding in 2017, the organization has received administrative approval to provide classes in Igbo, Twi, and Yoruba as for-credit university classes and will soon launch a noncredit class in Swahili this October. The organization has also received requests from community organizations and schools, to support African immigrants in gaining English proficiency and adjusting to life in the United States.

We invite you to apply to our executive board if expanding access to African languages and celebrating African culture through public service excites you. We also invite you to apply if you are hardworking, impact-oriented, and driven by passion. The work we do carries significant meaning for our class teachers, faculty sponsors, students, future community partners, and more. We hope you will join us in expanding our impact!
