Greek Life Serves aims to help alleviate food insecurity by "serving DC one plate at a time".

Greek
 Life Serves
aims to help alleviate food insecurity by "serving DC one plate at a time".
We work on getting 4-6 chapters to donate their in-house meal one night a semester. This means that rather than people eating in the house, they'd have to eat out at a local restaurant  (but keep in mind, it's just one time during the semester!). Then the chef prepares 50 meals and packages them in heat insulated bags that we get from UMD dining services or Jason's Deli. We work with Brian Gill, CEO of Gill's Grilling, and he coordinates the cooking with the chefs.

On the day of the drive, and after the chef packs up the food, we have 3 volunteers from each participating chapter drive over the food to the location  (whether it's a boys and girls club or a homeless shelter) and serve out the meals to the people who need it. GLS provides the plasticware and serving pieces. Also, volunteers get a fresh shirt.

Generally most chapters have their in-house girls vote on it. We've had 10 different PHA chapters participate this semester, and are trying for 12 next semester.

Greek Life Serves is taking part in the Do Good Challenge, and we're hosting a week of drives in late February. GLS is growing so fast that Sam and I are opening up an Executive Board! The application takes less than 30 seconds to fill out, and it can really help anyone looking to gain PR, Marketing, or Business Management skills, while also increasing their foothold in the Greek Community (because we work so closely with DFSL).
