The Ontario Genomics Institute (OGI) Summer Research Fellowships in
Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics or related ethics and policy
research are available to undergraduate students again in 2013. The
deadline for applications is March
4, 2013.
OGI Summer Research Fellowships offer undergraduate students studying at
Ontario universities unique opportunities to engage in meaningful,
real-life research in the areas of genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics
or related ethical, economic, environmental,
legal or social issues (“GE3LS”). Under the direction of a supervisor
in academia or industry*, Fellows will conduct research in one of these
areas in a laboratory or other appropriate academic or industrial
setting. *OGI will provide assistance with finding
a supervisor for anyone interested in applying for an industrial
fellowship.
These Fellowships not only provide students with the opportunity to gain
research experience, but also include a mandatory orientation session
at OGI, participation in biweekly information sessions via web
conferencing, and an opportunity to present their summers’
work by way of PowerPoint and poster presentations to their
supervisors, OGI staff and special guests at a final meeting in August
2013.
The value of the 2013 Summer Research Fellowship is $5,000. A travel
allowance will also be available to students and supervisors located
outside the Greater Toronto Area to offset the costs of attending OGI
Summer Research Fellowship events in Toronto. Please
note: Recipient may hold only one Summer Research Fellowship award.
Ontario universities, institutions and/or companies are strongly
encouraged to support these outstanding students by supplementing the
amount of the award using other sources. Universities may also provide
fringe benefits, such as vacation, medical insurance,
etc.
