Institute for Policy Studies - Letelier-Moffit Human Rights Awards 10/6

IPS is hosting its 39th annual Letelier-Moffit Human Rights Awards on Tuesday, October 6 to honor domestic awardee Daryl Atkinson of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice and international awardee Almudena Bernabeu of the Center for Justice and Accountability. Daryl is a Senior Staff Attorney at SCSJ who is dedicated to ending current unjust incarceration policies and Almudena is an international attorney who has prosecuted some of the worst Latin American violators of human rights, known for paving the way for the conviction of former Guatemalan president Efrain Rios Montt. These two individuals are being recognized for their courage and commitment to justice and human dignity and any interested students are welcome in attending the award ceremony.

This year's award recipients:
Domestic Awardee: Daryl Atkinson and the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, for their leadership in building a broad-based movement for criminal justice reform, and in empowering those with criminal records to uphold their right to a second chance.

International Awardee: Almudena Bernabeu and the Center for Justice and Accountability,​ for their successful prosecution of several of the worst Latin American perpetrators of crimes against humanity.
