Boren Scholarships for Critical Languages - Last Call!

Are you strongly focused on studying a critical language, and using your language skills in your career? Are you very interested in working for the US government in an internationally-related role? If so, learn about the Boren Scholarship program by writing to us at nsepboren@umd.edu 

The Boren Scholarship is aimed at undergraduates (US citizens) who want to study abroad for one or two semesters (preferably) in 2019-20 in non-traditional regions and countries, and who are interested in learning the languages of those areas. Maryland has ranked # 1 in the nation in Boren Scholarships awarded for the past 7 years!!!

Eligible regions include Africa, South Asia, East and Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and former Soviet Republics, Latin America, and the Middle East. (Boren Scholarships MAY NOT be used for study in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.) The Boren program has special opportunities for learning languages of Africa, South Asia, and Indonesia.

Eligibility: Applicants must be US Citizens; all classes (freshmen through seniors) and majors eligible. Must be strongly interestsed in Government service.

*The Boren Scholarship is a U.S. Government-funded award that seeks applicants who have a strong interest in future Government service; the award carries a one-year service expectation.*

All Maryland applicants for the Boren Scholarship must take part in a required campus review process which is designed to help you strengthen your application. The deadline for Maryland¹s review process is FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 2019.
