Volunteer as an English or Computer Instructor

  • Instructing English Classes: The English literacy course is provided to non-English speaking parents in order for them to learn basic concepts and improve their English language skills. The course is intended to teach parents English grammar, verbs, every day phrases and pronunciation. This course will be provided weekly for a period of six to eight weeks to a group of 15 parents. Parents will be expected to take a pre/post-test to assess their progress. The purpose of this course is to promote parents communication will school staff, provide job readiness skills and learn common English phrases they can utilize in different environments.

  • Instructing Computer Classes: The computer literacy course is intended to provide parents with basic and intermediate skills in word processing software (Microsoft words, Excel, PowerPoint). The purpose of providing this course is for parents to better assist students with their homework/projects and provide them with job readiness skills.
The time for the classes will need to be at either 6:00 P.M or 6:30 P.M. due to parents work schedule; however, the instructor has the liberty to choose the day (s) of the week when the class will be taught and how long. Classes will be held at Hyattsville Middle School (1522, 6001 42nd Ave, Hyattsville, MD 20781).
