Part-Time Job On Campus - Maryland Food Co-op Interest meetings 9/4 & 9/17

Open Position: Worker-Owner

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Maryland Food Collective is in search of new worker-owners to perform kitchen and
administrative work at our campus sandwich shop. We are a “no-bosses” workplace, meaning
that we make all major decisions democratically, all take part in the managerial tasks of running
a business, and oversee our own and each other’s work in a non-hierarchical manner and with a
view toward personal and collective growth.

Location: We are located on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, Maryland,
outside of Washington, DC. Please note that driving is not convenient as campus parking
passes are incredibly expensive. We are bus and Metro (green line) accessible.

Start Date: September 2018
Starting Wage: $11.50/hour

The Maryland Food Collective aspires to be an inclusive and liberatory organization. We value
having a diversity of life experiences and perspectives on our team. We strongly encourage
applicants who identify as persons of color, women, and/or gender nonconforming to apply. We
are an equal-opportunity employer.

HOW TO APPLY
Please email mdfoodcoop@gmail.com to receive an application. Those wishing to go up for hire
must first volunteer a minimum of 10 hours in the kitchen with us, to get to know the other
worker-owners and learn firsthand how we function, as well as attend one Monday business
meeting. A hiring interest meeting counts as a Monday meeting for these purposes. We will be
holding interest meetings on September 4th and September 17th, both at 7pm. Please note that
you will receive $10.75 in food credit to spend at our store for any hours volunteered, and $7.50
in food credit for attending a meeting. Then, bring your completed application to a hiring
meeting, where we will interview you and make a final decision to bring you on as an apprentice
worker-owner. Hiring meetings will be held on September 10th and 24th, again both at 7pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Helping craft delicious and healthy food for our customers.
● Attending weekly Monday business meetings for the week’s debrief and to have your
voice heard on all major decisions.
● Regularly performing at least one administrative task essential to the business’s
operations, such as marketing, ordering, finance, maintenance, and more.
● Maintaining a healthy, open, and supportive work environment for yourself, your
coworkers, and our customers.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Working the cash registers and counting money.
● Cleaning.
● Meeting with coworkers to collaborate on administrative tasks and to discuss new policy
proposals and performance reviews.

the job. However, any qualifications or experience in the below is a bonus:
● Kitchen experience
● Baking
