New Mental Health Service Needs Members

Are you interested in supporting students through mental health challenges? Do you hope to make a wider impact on campus? Are you ever the stand-in therapist, mom friend, or go-to tea spiller? Check out Lean On Me UMD (https://ter.ps/leanonme), a new, anonymous, peer-to-peer text line for UMD students to seek non-crisis mental health support. Lean On Me was founded in 2015 by MIT students and has chapters at eight other universities around the country.

Too often, students will not seek out the support they need from mental health services as they find services inaccessible or feel that their problems are not important enough to warrant reaching out. Lean On Me UMD will complement existing services at UMD with a mission to lower the barrier to entry for seeking emotional support by being anonymous, highly accessible, approachable, and involved in the community. We are recruiting for both supporters and leadership for this upcoming 2020-2021 year!

If you are interested, please apply by July 21th: ter.ps/leanonme
